By Train. From the Santa Maria Novella station you can reach the hotel by taxi (we don't recommend proceeding on foot, especially with luggage; the distance requires at least 20 minutes of travel) or by bus, with line 14 (for Il Girone or Ripa), departing from the station. Get off at Colonna 01 stop. From here head towards Borgo Pinti on foot. In just a few minutes you will reach Hotel Monna Lisa.
By Plane. The ‘Amerigo Vespucci’ airport of Florence is 8.5 km away. To get to the hotel use the taxi service; travel time is 30 minutes, and the cost averages between 30 and 35 Euro. From the airport the shuttle goes directly to the Santa Maria Novella Station; from there you can proceed to follow the instructions outlined in the section ‘By Train’.
By Car. From the “A1” highway take the Firenze Sud exit. Follow the ramp all the way and cross the bridge on the Arno river; at the stop light at the bottom of the bridge, turn left and follow the directions for the Viali di Circonvallazione (the river should always be on your left!). Take the riverside avenue to the San Niccolò Bridge, exit to the left then turn right onto Viale Giovanni Amendola. Arriving at Piazza Beccaria - easily recognizable from the antique gate - continue straight to Piazza Donatello - with the cemetery in the center – and drive around that cemetery, following the signs for the ZTL (limited traffic zone) and the Santa Maria Nuova Hospital. Turn right at the first traffic light onto Via Alfieri, take the first right (Via Giusti); then take the first left (Borgo Pinti) and the first right (via Laura), finally, take the first left (Via della Pergola). Parking at the Hotel Monna Lisa is in the Pergola alley, the fourth left on Via della Pergola, next to the Teatro della Pergola. Once at the gate, ring the bell.
Choosing to stay at the 4-star Hotel Monna Lisa you will be in the heart of Florence, in historical Borgo Pinti, within walking distance of squares, churches and monuments that have made this marvelous city famous.
From our hotel, a short walk leads to the Piazza Duomo, where you can admire Giotto's Bell Tower, the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral with the majestic dome by Brunelleschi and the Baptistery with the famous Gates of Paradise by Ghiberti.
Go past the National Museum of Bargello, you enter the Piazza della Signoria, the administration center of Florence; between superb architecture and opulent palaces - on all the Medici Palazzo Vecchio - they display a beautiful copy of Michelangelo's David and the Gothic arches of the Loggia dei Lanzi.
Soon after, arrive at the amazing Uffizi Gallery, where an exceptional variety of works of art are conserved, ranging from the 14th century, the Renaissance and the modern age; including artists such as Botticelli, Giotto, Caravaggio, Rembrandt. Reserve tickets in advance and enjoy an unparalleled collection. A must-see!
Ponte Vecchio, with its antique goldsmith shops, is one of the symbols of Florence. Look out over the Arno and allow yourself to become enchanted by the slow flow of water, a charming and romantic venue that precedes the Palazzo Pitti with its famous Boboli Gardens, green oasis in the center of the city.
A few minutes' walk from the Hotel Monna Lisa is the Santa Croce Basilica. Built in the 13th century, it represents one of the highest expressions of Italian Gothic; buried inside are famous artists, writers and scientists such as Michelangelo, Machiavelli and Galileo Galilei. This was the reason that prompted the poet Ugo Foscolo to define the building as ‘The temple of Italian glories’.
Shopping & Relax
Surrounding the Piazza Duomo, Via dè Tornabuoni hosta high-fashion boutiques, shoe stores and renowned pasteries. For souvenirs and leather goods, turn to the San Lorenzo Market; if you are looking for books or antiques, the famous Pulci Market is the one for you. Are you a person passionate about antiques? Go to Via Maggio, or Ponte Vecchio. On Tuesday morning, go to the Cascine Market and, when you have finished shopping, take a nice walk through the park.
